Dr. Longjian Liu is Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at the Department of Epidemiology, Drexel University School of Public Health (SPH). Prior to SPH, Dr. Liu's former professional positions include (1) Preventive Medicine Physician (Board Certified) and faculty member at the Department of Epidemiology, Shanxi Medical University, China; (2) Lecturer in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Medical Statistics; Associate Professor and Associate Director of the Department of Epidemiology, Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, China; (3) Research Fellow at Shiga University of Medical Science, Shiga, Japan; (4) Assistant Professor in the Department of International Preventive Nutritional Medicine, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan; (5) MD Postdoctoral Fellow and Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Dr. Longjian Liu received his Bachelor's Degree of Medicine from Shanxi Medical University and being Board Certified in Preventive Medicine in China. Afterwards, Dr. Liu received his Master’s Degree of Science in Epidemiology from the University of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London, United Kingdom; Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology/Community Medicine from the University of Hong Kong; and completed Postdoctoral Fellowships for MD Researchers in Geriatric Health Services at the Department of Geriatrics, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock, Arkansas, USA. Dr. Liu is a member of several scientific and professional societies, and fellow of American Heart Association–Epidemiology Council.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Liu has been work at Universities in China, Japan and the USA. He has taught Preventive Medicine, Epidemiology, Applied Biostatistics in Epidemiology and Medical Demography for under- and postgraduate students majoring in medicine, preventive medicine, public health, population sciences and human environment sciences. Dr. Liu has extensive research experience in four different countries (China, Japan, UK and the USA) in studies of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer in relation to nutrition, aging, environment and racial/ethnic health disparities. Dr. Liu has participated in several important collaborative studies, including the Hong Kong Cardiovascular Risk Factor Prevalence Study; BMI and other Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease (Japan National Cardiovascular Surveys); the World Health Organization - Cardiovascular Diseases and Alimentary Comparison (WHO-CARDIAC) Study; Nutrition and Health Outcomes in Old Patients (Central Arkansas Veteran’s Hospital-based Study); Nutritional Status and Physical Activity Patterns in Older Adults (a community-based cross-sectional study in Arkansas); Health, Aging and Body Composition Study; and Multi-Ethnic Study of Arthrosclerosis. The results of this research have been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Liu also serves on multiple committees and as a reviewer for numerous national and international journals, and as a member of Review Panel in Cardiovascular Research and International Collaborative Studies for NIH.

Research Interests: Nutrition and diet-genetic interaction effects in heart disease and cancer prevention; epidemiological study and design; application of biostatics in epidemiology; international health in cardiovascular disease epidemiology and prevention; analytical studies of national and international health databases (US-NHANES, US-LSOA, Japan-National CVD Surveys, UK-Health Surveys, China-National Nutrition Surveys); cardiovascular disease and diabetes epidemiology.
