Faculty and Alumni Named to Pennsylvania Public Health Leadership Positions

Dr. Longjian Liu, a professor at the School of Public Health, and Onyeka Iloabachie, MPH, CPH, an alumnus of the School of Public Health, were recently named to the board of the Pennsylvania Public Health Association (PPHA). Dr. Liu was also announced as the chair of the organization’s Academic Public Health Section.

The PPHA is a membership organization that works to promote the health of Pennsylvania residents through the advancement of sound public health policies and practice. PPHA members from across the state have interest, experience, and expertise over a wide range of health-related issues, including those related to policy, education, private and public sector health services and healthcare delivery, legislation, and health-related research.

Dr. Liu and Iloabachie were two of four new members recently named to the PPHA’s board.

According to officials at the PPHA, their goal is to have a diverse body of public health professionals who represent all the constituencies of the public health arena and regions within the state.

"We now have representation from several state regions, (Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and the Northeast) and different organizations including academic institutions, community-based public health agencies, insurance companies, health care facilities, and state and local public health departments," said Andrea Crivella-Kovach, the president of the PPHA in a message to its members.

Dr. Liu is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at the School of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. His research focuses on cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer in relation to nutrition, aging, environment and racial/ethnic health disparities. He received his Bachelor's Degree of Medicine from Shanxi Medical University and being Board Certified in Preventive Medicine in China. He received his Master’s Degree of Science in Epidemiology from the University of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London, Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology/Community Medicine from the University of Hong Kong.

Iloabachie is a graduate of the School of Public Health. He is the current Administrative Director for Women's Health Services and Ambulatory Health Services at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
