The School of Public Health celebrated National Public Health Week throughout April 3-9, 2006.
At 2 p.m., April 3, students hosted a kick-off rally in Rittenhouse Square (18th and Walnut Streets) for "Take It Outside," a campaign supporting a smoke-free Philadelphia.
Drexel public health students persuaded several Rittenhouse Square restaurants, including Bleu and Le Jardin, to be smoke-free for a day during Public Health Week. The rally, which featured speakers from the School of Public Health, participating restaurant owners and American Cancer Society representatives, thanked the restaurants for their support and encouraged others to follow their example. T-shirts were distributed.
Attendees also signed petitions to show their support of Philadelphia's proposed smoking-free restaurant legislation.
In addition to the rally, Philadelphia's PECO building at 2301 Market Street featured "Drexel Celebrates Public Health Week April 3-9" after sundown on Wednesday, April 5 and Friday, April 7.
