Dean Gold Named to Philadelphia Board of Health

Marla J. Gold, MD, the dean of the Drexel University School of Public Health, was recently appointed to the City of Philadelphia’s Board of Health by Mayor Michael Nutter. As a member of the Board of Health, Dean Gold will advise and help formulate policy for the city’s Department of Public Health.

Dean Gold’s research focus is on HIV/AIDS with particular interest in the design of health care delivery systems, treatment protocols and epidemiology. She has extensive experience working with community-based organizations, community leaders and coalitions on a wide range of issues. In addition to serving as the school’s dean, she also is a professor in the Department of Health Management and Policy.

Dean Gold previously served as Philadelphia’s Assistant Health Commissioner for Infectious Disease Control in the Public Health Department, where she was responsible for all reportable and communicable diseases and conditions. Among her responsibilities, she represented the City of Philadelphia as the grantee for Ryan White CARE Act awards, CDC Cooperative Agreements for a variety of diseases, and directed the design of a delivery system of HIV care among Philadelphia’s eight public health centers.
