The Center for Health Equality (CHE) is a collaboration between the Drexel University School of Public Health and the College of Nursing and Health Professions. Founded in 2003, its mission is to partner with community and government to improve the health and well-being of communities through the elimination of health disparities.
The Center provides an innovative and exciting program of research and evaluation, networking and collaboration, education and practice built around a commitment to social justice and human rights.
Through its faculty at the School of Public Health and the College of Nursing and Health Professions, and its working relationships with communities in Philadelphia and with health care experts, the Center has developed a broad set of strategies for fulfilling its mission, including:
- Serving as a resource and providing expert assistance to local, state and national organizations on cultural competence and health disparities;
- Undertaking applied research on cultural competence and disparity reduction;
- Developing curricula and education programs for community, health professional, government and corporate audiences;
- Convening national, state and local conferences on cultural competence and racial and ethnic disparity reduction; and
- Communicating related information and innovations to communities and health professionals.
By connecting research, education and practice, the Center will offer compelling data to foster local and state officials’ adoption of evidence-based effective healthcare delivery and social programs designed to eliminate health disparities.
