Title of talk: “Surveillance for Notifiable Conditions in Philadelphia”

Speaker: Claire Newbern, PhD, MPH, Senior Epidemiology Manager at Department of Public Health Division of Disease Control Epidemiology Unit

Bio: Dr. Newbern received her MPH in Epidemiology from the Univ. of Michigan and Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the Univ. of. North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After finishing her doctoral work, she served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer (EISO) for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She spent a number of years working as a vaccine epidemiologist for GlaxoSmithKline Biologics.  Dr. Newbern has been in her current role as the Epidemiology Unit Manager at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health Division of Disease Control since 2008. A primary focus of her work is electronic transmission of data (disease and vaccine reports).  Recent expansion and analytic work haven been in the areas of chronic viral hepatitis infection, HPV vaccine coverage in Philadelphia adolescents, and relationships between certain infectious diseases (STDs, viral hepatitis, and HIV).
